Ashley Soulé Conroy, age 21, died on March 11, 2006, from a tragic accidental fall while studying abroad in India. Having attended St. Martin's Episcopal School in Metairie since pre-kindergarten, Ashley graduated in 2003. While there, she was an All-State and All-Metro Volleyball Star, co-captain of the Volleyball team, as well as the Homecoming Queen. She was presented at the Bienville Club in her senior year. Ashley, who was a junior at the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina, was placed in the Distinguished Category for Faculty Honors and accepted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She also was employed part-time at Meritage, a restaurant in Charleston, where her co-workers were like a second family.
Last December, she was presented as a debutante at the Pickwick Club. Ashley enjoyed reading books, practicing yoga, bike riding and was a tender, kind soul, who will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She is the daughter of Cynthia Phillips Schmidt and Stephen Kenneth Conroy; sister of Brooke Sholars Conroy, Emma Marks Conroy, and Lilyon Cooper Conroy; step-daughter of Christine Marks Conroy and Leonard Frederick Schmidt III; granddaughter of Mary Lou Soulé Conroy, the late George Edward Conroy, Jr., the late Dr. John Hunter Phillips Jr., and the late Mary Jo Phillips. A service will be held at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 2216 Metairie Road on Saturday, March 25, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to The Ashley Soulé Conroy Foundation at AmSouth Bank. The Foundation has been established for the purpose of awarding scholarships to qualified students who wish to study abroad.
