Project Description

Lima, Peru

There is truth to recognizing that coming home is the hardest thing. That is because, for 6 months of my life, I became a different person, spoke a different language, and lived in a completely new culture. I was no longer C.J. Aragon the American, rather I was Carlo Aragón. My perception of life and who I was changed the moment I arrived in Lima, Peru. Above all I am grateful to the Ashley Soulé Conroy Foundation in providing me the means to achieve my Spanish learning and cultural understanding goals. Now that the experience has ended I am left with the unforgettable memories and thoughts about how my life has changed. This opportunity allowed me to explore further what it means to be a Hispanic and appreciate my Latino roots. With the mastery of the Spanish language I am able to connect with my community in New Mexico in a new ways. Most of all I am better equipped to pursue my future career in diplomacy.
